So I have to format the hard-drive as a APFS Case-Sensitive.

New Mac OS installation comes as Case-Insensitive and as a developer I felt like I need to turn back to Case-Sensitive. When my ‘Toy’ arrived I felt like a little kid, things I want to do with it comes to mind. Also you eagerly waiting for the new M2 so you could easily replace. Also you have bought a Synology NAS treating your Air (as MacBook Air M1) as a to-go portable work station. I read somewhere online that on some Apple provided external displays the brightness control in the Display control panel may work. It’s new year 2022 and you decide to upgrade your system and this time you want to be fan-less, and the promising M1 Silicon MacBook Air will hopefully do the job for your career as a Frontend Developer. So for my external display, I need to manually adjust brightness on the display itself. On Catalina, there is no brightness control shown on the Display control panel. On Big Sur, the brightness control is shown in the Display control panel, but does not allow any adjustment.

Update - For my external monitor, apparently there is no Apple provided brightness control. Hope this helps others considering getting a M1 Mac. Besides Blocs, I’d like to look later at how Final Cut Pro works on M1. In general, my M1 Mac mini is running well and I really like performance increase. That’s what I found out so far using M1 Mac mini. I might ask Softraid guys if they’d look at this later, but don’t want to bug them right now since they’re looking at the other problem for me. I’m currently trying different drive configurations to see if I can fix. I found that if I remove some of the enclosures, it will shut down cleanly. I noticed when trying to shut down M1 with all working drive enclosures connected that during shut down a panic/restart will occur.I found the procedure to use in a doc at the Promise web site.

Had to download M1 compatible Softraid beta driver + utility before it worked. I have 2 OWC (TB2) and 2 Akitio (1-TB2, 1 TB3) drive enclosures using Softraid software.M1 compatible Pegasus driver only available recently. Had to download M1 compatible driver + utility before it worked. I have 2 Promise Pegasus2 R4 drive enclosures (Thunderbolt 2).Not a major problem for me right now as I can view on screen OK, it’s just slightly too bright. I’m guessing Apple will fix in later update. Brightness control shows max setting, but cannot adjust one way or the other.I Googled about this and found some other people saying similar thing. Not able to adjust brightness for my external monitor.Regarding other things I’ve noticed so far on M1, here’s my current list. I’m sure Norm will want to do some more M1 testing on Blocs when he gets a chance. When I get more time, will try out more things. Also noticed a few other Blocs quirks, but just haven’t had time to fully test out. Again, this might be related to missing bric(s). I tried to view installed brics using + in edit window, but then Blocs crashed. I then remembered that I didn’t load in Swiper2 (and other) bric to Blocs, so likely that’s the problem. Everything looked OK except Swiper2 sliders were not full page and looked like a regular carousel. I did a quick export of this project and uploaded to my web site. It does load and I can view project objects. Also installed Blocs4 and tried loading one B4 project.

Right now, installing needed apps onto the M1. The main performance thing I notice so far is how fast web browsing is. Hi got it running!!! Seems very fast compared to my Mac Pro (Late 2013).
